Race starts are where good races go to die. Cold tyres, full tanks, nervous drivers, and everyone trying to win the race in the first 200 meters.
You can’t control others — but you can make decisions that massively improve your survival rate.
The goal of Turn 1
Finish Turn 1 alive. Not “gain six positions.” Not “prove a point.” Alive.
Start survival rules
- Brake earlier than you think. Cold tyres and traffic change everything.
- Leave space. If someone is alongside, they exist.
- Pick a line and commit. Sudden moves cause chain reactions.
- Expect the accordion. Cars ahead will brake earlier than normal.
When to be aggressive (and when not to)
- Be patient if you’re mid-pack. Chaos is higher and visibility is worse.
- Be decisive if you have a clear gap and a predictable line.
- Never dive blind into a corner you can’t see.
Practice starts
Starts feel chaotic because you don’t practice them. In offline sessions, run multiple starts in a row and focus on clean braking and predictable lines.
