Tyre management in sim racing can feel mysterious because the tyre model is hidden behind the sim. But the basics are consistent across games: tyres hate heat, slip, and aggressive inputs.
What kills tyres fastest
- Sliding: especially power-oversteer and big corrections
- Over-driving entry: scrubbing the front tyres in understeer
- Spinning wheels on exit: rear tyre heat and wear
- Kerb abuse: repeated impacts and instability
The “smooth but not slow” approach
- Brake earlier, release smoother, and carry speed through the middle.
- Use steering inputs that build progressively, not instantly.
- Apply throttle like a dimmer switch, not a light switch.
Long-race mindset
In endurance or longer races, your job isn’t one perfect lap. It’s 60 good laps with no spikes in tyre temperature.
