Shorter drivers often face the opposite problem of tall racers: you can reach the wheel, or you can reach the pedals — but not both comfortably at the same time.
The big risk is sliding forward under braking, which breaks consistency and can create back/hip discomfort.
Fix the foundations first
1) Bring pedals to you (if possible)
If your rig allows it, moving the pedal deck back is usually better than sitting too far forward with no support.
2) Use seat sliders the smart way
Seat sliders help, but if you slide too far forward you may lose back support. Aim for a position where the seat still holds you under braking.
3) Set wheel distance last
Once pedals and seat are stable, bring the wheel to a comfortable reach with relaxed shoulders.
Comfort tricks that help
- Use a small cushion if you need a bit of seat height (but avoid unstable “stacked” solutions).
- Check pedal face angle so your ankle isn’t over-flexed.
