Console sim racing is awesome: fewer settings, fewer driver issues, fewer “PC troubleshooting” nights.
But there’s one problem most console rigs share: the console ends up on the floor. And that means dust, kicked cables, awkward USB access, and questionable ventilation.
Where should the console go?
- On the rig: tidy, accessible, fewer cable runs.
- On a shelf next to the rig: good ventilation, but longer cables.
- On the floor: works, but it’s the messiest and least protected option.
Cooling: don’t block airflow
Consoles need breathing room. If you mount it on the rig, avoid tight enclosures and leave clearance around vents.
Keep cables from becoming a trip hazard
- Route power and HDMI along the rig’s profiles.
- Secure slack with ties/Velcro so nothing drags.
- Plan controller charging and headset routing from the start.
Rig-friendly option
- SimXPro PS4/PS5/Xbox console tray — a cockpit-mounted way to keep the console accessible and off the floor.
Bonus: If you’re using a keyboard for text/chat or tuning, adding a keyboard tray makes console sim racing feel much less “sofa controller” and much more “proper rig”.
